Day 3 Hollywood Studio’s at Walt Disney Word, Florida

Well rested we actually get to the park about 8:30 this morning. The gates were open and you could enter the park to explore Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards.

We could not go on the exciting drive thru the streets of LA on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster this trip but this is usually our must see first attraction in this park. Our grandson and granddaughter have just loved this roller coaster ever since they were tall enough to ride it, and this is an attraction that we come back to several times during the day when they are with us. This indoor coaster launches you at 57mph and 4.5g’s in 2.8 seconds as you twist, turn and invert with Aerosmith playing through the speakers. “ROCK ON!!”

The Forge – 2016-1-13

The Forge

All I know is a door into the dark                                                                                                           Outside, old axes and iron hoops rusting;                                                                                           Inside, the hammered anvil’s short-pitched ring,                                                                                 The unpredictable fantail of sparks                                                                                                               Or hiss when a new shoe toughens in water.                                                                                         The anvil must be somewhere in the center,                                                                                   Horned as a unicorn, at one end square,                                                                                                     Set there immovable: an alter                                                                                                                   Where he expends himself in shape and music.                                                                     Sometimes, leather-aproned, hairs in his nose,                                                                                       He leans out on the jamb, recalls a clatter                                                                                                 Of hoofs where traffic is flashing in rows:                                                                                               Then grunts and goes in, with a slam and flick                                                                                         To beat real iron out, to work the bellows.                                                                                                                                                                                            Seamus Heaney

Daily Musing 2016-1-7

REMEMBER Oradour-sur-Glane

REMEMBER Oradour-sur-Glane

A sign from the town of Oradour-sur-Glane that was destroyed right after D-Day of World War II. This sign was at the entry to the museum and stated it so eloquently.

That as we look ahead into the future and New Year we must always remember the past so we do not fall into the same habits and pitfalls others have shown us.

Daily Blast 2016-1-5

Another blast from the past. Another one of my old film cameras. You can see how small it is by the film canister beside it. This was a nice pocket camera, that if you took your time, made some very good photographs.

I am going to have fun once I get batteries and film for this one also.

Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Part 12

This trip was taken between May 22, 2014 to June 10, 2014.

Today is a sail day so we just relax, read and view the coast as we sail back to Copenhagen for the final days of this trip. It is cold, windy and overcast so walking on the top deck is really just hard work and not very relaxing so we find a comfortable place to sit for the day leaving only when it is time to eat or to find a new location when we want a change of atmosphere.

During dinner we say goodbye to our new friends and go back to our room to pack, as we must leave our bags outside the door before we turn in for the night.

Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Part 11

This trip was taken between May 22, 2014 to June 10, 2014.

View of Bergen

Bergen

We get up early and head to the Windjammer Cafe for an early breakfast and we actually arrived before they opened. After the filling buffet we walk down to deck 4 to watch the docking at Bergen, Norway. The sequence of events at docking is pretty entertaining at times. We notice one gentleman has run the show at every port, we watch as he directs other crewmembers and dockworkers to secure the gangway so everyone can exit safely and comfortably, but sometimes that is a little more difficult than others. One time the tide must have been out as there was very little headroom for taller passengers to exit the doorway and a very narrow area to place the gangway. They tried several different angles but to no avail and must get out some foam padding to protect heads from banging on the top of the opening.

Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Part 7

This trip was taken between May 22, 2014 to June 10, 2014.

We get up later again today and start packing for our city-to-city transfer tonight.

After we finish packing and eating breakfast we walk down the street to buy lunch at Deli de Luna, then head back to the apartment for a taxi ride to the DFDS Ferry dock at 11AM.

DFDS Ferry

DFDS Ferry

We wait in a nice waiting room until we could check-in for the ferry where we snacked and ate our sandwiches before boarding. Dropping our luggage in our room we head to the outside deck so we have a nice view of Oslo and the Inner Oslofjord on our way to Copenhagen. We were rewarded with beautiful vistas and views of towns along the Fjord as the sun sets.

This trip was taken between May 22, 2014 to June 10, 2014.

Thurs 5-29:

Akershus Slott

Akershus Slott

We wake up this morning a little later than usual and head out for Akershus Fortress, during our ride we notice most of the shops are closed and there is very little activity on the streets. When we arrive at the fortress we start to notice signs in windows and on doors that say this is a Holiday – Ascension Day. This Christian holiday, 39 days after Easter, commemorates Jesus Christ’s ascension into heaven. Well at least the fortress will be open but not for a few hours, so we walk around the grounds to get a feel of the place.
